The 5th World Hydropower Congress is scheduled to be held at Beijing Yanqi Lake International Convention & Exhibition Center (BYCC) from May 19 to 21, 2015. This will be the first time for the World Hydropower Congress to be held in China. The 5th World Hydropower Congress will be another large international activity held at BYCC after the 5th Beijing International Film Festival.
The World Hydropower Congress, hosted by the International Hydropower Association (IHA), is the most important conference in the international hydropower sector. Beginning from 2007, the World Hydropower Congress with the theme of “advancing sustainable hydropower” has been held once every two years. The 5th World Hydropower Congress is supported by the National Energy Administration of China and China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and co-organized by four institutions, namely China Society for Hydropower Engineering, China Three Gorges Corporation, China National Committee on Large Dams and China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research (IWHR).
To date, the meeting agenda and discussion topics have been determined, including five plenary meetings, 21 sessions and many side events. The five plenary meetings are opening ceremony and China-themed meeting, BRIC-themed meeting, Africa-themed meeting, Asia-themed meeting and closing ceremony respectively.
Holding the 5th World Hydropower Congress in China is closely related to the huge achievements made in China’s hydropower industry. China’s hydropower industry has not only made breakthrough in hydropower station construction and technical management, but also positively responded to the national development strategy of “going global” to vigorously develop the overseas markets, engaged in international businesses and had an increasing influence in the world, becoming a huge force to lead and promote the world hydropower development.
